Penis prosthesis is a medical device approved by FDA in treatment of erectile dysfunction which requires a surgical procedure.
Indications-
- Erectile dysfunction of unknown cause
- Failure of erectile dysfunction to improve or resolve naturally
- Failed medical management of erectile dysfunction.
- Implanted during reconstruction of penis.
Penile prosthesis implantation is normally only considered when less invasive medical treatments have been exhausted or deemed unsuitable. For example, many drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction are unsuitable for patients with heart problems and may interfere with other medications.
They are 2 types

How Does the Penile Prosthesis Work?
The inflatable penile prosthesis consists of two cylinders — a reservoir and a pump — which are placed surgically in the body. The two cylinders are inserted in the penis and connected by tubing to a separate reservoir of fluid. The reservoir is implanted under the groin muscles. A pump is also connected to the system and sits under the loose skin of the scrotal sac, between the testicles.
To inflate the prosthesis, the man presses on the pump. The pump transfers fluid from the reservoir to the cylinders in the penis, inflating them. Pressing on a deflation valve at the base of the pump returns the fluid to the reservoir, deflating the penis.
Is the Prosthesis Noticeable?
No. There will be small scar between the root of penis and the scrotum which difficult to see.
What Is Sex Like With the Prosthesis?
When you need an erection you press the pump and the pump transfers fluid from the reservoir to the cylinders in the penis, inflating them and the penis will be stiff and you can have erection. Pressing on the deflation valve after the intercourse will make penis to flaccid or normal state.
You will have normal sensation of penile skin. You will be able to have orgasm and the ejaculation will be normal as before. You will not have an erection without inflating the prosthesis.
How good is the operation?
About 90%-95% of inflatable prosthesis implants produce erections suitable for intercourse. Satisfaction rates with the prosthesis are very high, and typically 80%-90% of men are satisfied with the outcome.
What are the side effects of the operation?
No surgery is totally free of possible complications. Complications associated with penile implants include:
- Infection
- Erosion (tissue around the implant may break down)
- Mechanical failure
- Bleeding
